THE GINGERBREAD MAN @ ALBERT STREET REFUGEE SCHOOL

On this day, I had two classes! 41 Year 1 children and 17 of Year 2 children. There was no electricity inside for them to see, nor a classroom big enough to accommodate us all, so I took them outside to the concrete "play" area. Using a paper cutouts and real puppets, I told the story of The Gingerbread Man. The children love being part of the storytelling.  I had them all singing …

RUN, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN,
YOU CAN'T CATCH ME, I'M THE GINGERBREAD MAN!

After the story, I had the children collectively retell the story. Then, we went back to our classrooms to draw the story characters and write their names. During the this part of the lesson and supervision, I had to run up and down the stairs between the two classrooms! Whew! What a day! I don't know who had more fun….the children, or me? What do you think?
